LAC ETCHEMIN, Que. - A 47-year-old man is dead following a skiing accident about 60 kilometres south of Quebec City.

Provincial police say the man slammed into a lamppost at high speed after being hit by another skier on Thursday at Mont Orignal near Lac-Etchemin.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at hospital.

Police spokeswoman Christine Coulombe says the skier was experienced.

The CEO of the ski resort, Micheline Cloutier, says weather conditions at the time of the accident were mild.

She says the crash occurred on an intermediate level slope and this was the first death at the site since it opened in 1974. Mont Orignal gets between 30,000 and 35,000 skiers each year.
