Todd van der Heyden started his television career in 1997 at Videotron's Cable 9, a Montreal community access TV station, working as a reporter, researcher and host. During that time, he also freelanced for CBC Radio in Montreal and wrote articles for The Toronto Star. In January 2000, van der Heyden was hired by CFCF 12 as a daily news reporter for Pulse News. In December 2001, Van der Heyden also assumed the position of back-up news anchor.

One of the stories that had the most profound impact on van der Heyden's career was the Sept.11 terrorist attacks. van der Heyden spent five days in New York City on site at Ground Zero covering the aftermath. Other highlights include covering the riots in Quebec City during the 2001 Summit of the Americas and being a political reporter on the Charest Liberal campaign bus during Quebec's April 2003 provincial election.

In October 2003, van der Heyden was promoted to reporter/producer of the new feature segment "On Your Side." The position included helping viewers solve problems, reporting on consumer issues, and conducting investigative and consumer affairs journalism. He has since filed hundreds of exclusive stories, and his segment has become one of the most popular features of the CTV Montreal news broadcast. Further to this, in February 2005, van der Heyden became the co-anchor of the 6 p.m. weekend newscast, joining anchor Tarah Schwartz.

In January 2007, van der Heyden's career reached another benchmark when he moved from anchoring weekends to weekdays at noon, co-anchoring with veteran newscaster Mutsumi Takahashi. Most recently, in August 2008, he assumed the co-anchor chair of the flagship weekday 6 p.m. show, again teaming up with Mutsumi Takahashi.

Born in Montreal, van der Heyden studied Journalism at Carleton University and Communication Studies at Concordia University. He enjoys traveling, fitness, science-fiction, comic books, international politics, reading the New York Times, listening to retro, alternative & punk/pop music. He is also an avid and longtime fan of Elvis Presley, having visited Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee twice.
