The price of a litre of gas at some stations on the island of Montreal has jumped to the 90-cent range.
The Esso and Shell stations at the corner of Notre Dame and Atwater are both charging 91-cents a litre.
The jump is in contrast to the cost of oil sinking lower on Monday. Analysts suggest it is predicated on fears related to the global economic slowdown dampening the consumption of oil.
The February crude contract sank to US $34.60 late in the afternoon.
The website Essence Montreal, a website that tracks gas prices, reported the highest on-island price for a litre of gas was 94.9 at the Esso at 1250 Herron road in Dorval.
The lowest, was at the Petro Canada at Marcel-Laurin and St.Louis in St. Laurent at 70.4 cents a litre.
