A man has been sentenced to 15 months in jail in the dangerous driving death of 27-year-old Christine Landry.
Andre Goupil pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death.
Landry's family was not happy with the sentence, handed down nearly three and a half years after Christine's death.
"Losing a child is something you never get over," said her mother, Odette Sirois. "It's something, it's a part of you that's leaving, like losing an arm or something like that. You have to learn to live with it."
Goupil will be eligible for parole in roughly 10 weeks.
The prosecutor has not decided whether or not he will appeal the sentence.
Accident
Goupil was driving his pick up truck at more than 140 km and hour on Hwy 13 in August 2005.
The highway was under construction and was at a juncture where it narrowed from three lanes to one.
Goupil attempted to merge without slowing down and slammed into the back of the motorcycle driven by Landry's boyfriend.
She was riding on the back and was killed instantly. Her boyfriend was injured.
Two hours after the crash, a blood-alcohol sample was taken from Goupil. It measured 0.079, which is a hair under the legal limit of 0.08
Goupil was initially charged with drunk driving, but the charges were dropped as part of a plea bargain.
Quebec legal limit
In December, transport minister Julie Boulet attempted to change the legal blood alcohol limit to 0.05, but that clause was dropped from the legislation.
