Prime Minister Stephen Harper was in Quebec City Friday evening, for the official opening night show of the Quebec Winter Carnival.

Harper spoke animatedly to the crowd, in what may have been an attempt to shore up confidence amongst Quebec voters who denied him a majority government in October's federal election.

"I'm meeting President Obama soon. I meet a lot of leaders, but my most important meeting every year is with Bonhomme," he said, referring to the winter event's well-known mascot.

Harper even did a couple of dance moves with Bonhomme Carnaval, before leaving.

After Harper left the stage, the festivities continued with a performance by the Porn Flakes, a group of Quebec musicians.

The evening ended with a fireworks display.
