The preliminary inquiry for an RCMP employee who has alleged ties to the mob began Wednesday at the Montreal Court House.

Angelo Cecere is accused of providing privileged information to the mafia.

He has pleaded not guilty. The inquiry will dertermine if there is enough evidence to take the case to trial.

He is a visually-impaired civilian who worked for the RCMP as a wire tap translator for 15-to-20 years. As such, he had access to privileged information.

Alleged ties discovered

During the RCMP operation Coliseum to arrest members of the Rizzuto clan, the national police found the suspects had information they should not have known.

They began an internal investigation and the evidence pointed to Cecere.

Cecere's lawyer says his client did nothing more than take his work home with him.
