There was yet another fatal accident involving a snow removal vehicle Sunday morning.

A snow plow collided with a Toyota Echo on Route 158 in Joliette, about 70 km northeast of Montreal.

A 58-year-old female passenger inside the car was killed.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries, but the driver of the snow plow was not hurt in the accident.

The exact details of what led to the collision are unknown.

The Sret du Qubec and the Socit de l'assurance automobile du Qubec (SAAQ) are investigating.

Four people killed in other accidents

Sunday's fatality brings the number of Quebecers killed this winter in snow removal-related accidents up to five.

On Tuesday morning, an elderly couple died as they tried to cross on a green light at Sherbrooke and Champlain Sts.

Jean-Paul Pinet, 71, and Solange St-Onge, 72, were on their way to a medical appointment at Notre-Dame Hospital when they were struck by a snow removal truck.

Later that afternoon, 76-year-old Lucie-Rivard Lanouette was killed by a snow plow while she was crossing on a green light at the corner of Iberville and Fleury Sts. in the Ahunstic district.

In December, a 49-year-old woman was crushed by a snow removal truck in Cte-des-Neiges, when she tried to cross Jean-Brillant St.

Funeral for two victims

On Sunday afternoon, private funeral services were held for Pinet and St-Onge, at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Home on Beaubien St., in the city's east end.

Public inquest

The Quebec coroner's office announced Friday there will be a public inquiry into the deaths of the four victims.

After the investigation, recommendations will be issued by Coroner Jean-Luc Malouin.

A report was issued three years ago following the deaths of two pedestrians in December 2005.

The report recommended changes to eliminate problematic blind spots for drivers of large snow-clearing vehicles, but so far, no changes have been implemented by the provincial or federal governments.
