Pratt & Whitney has confirmed to CTV Montreal it will cut 1000 jobs, but it has not announced where those jobs will be.

Pierre Boisseau, Marketing & Communications Manager for Pratt and Whitney Canada, confirms that employees were notified this morning that up to 1000 employees worldwide would be laid off.

Boisseau said it is too early to say how many workers in Quebec will be affected.

Each of its worldwide facilities will be evaluated and a decision will be made on where the cuts will be made.

Boisseau said the company had to cutback production because orders for small and medium size engines have dropped off significantly in recent months.

The company has seen orders drop with the 40 manufacturers around the world for which it produces aircraft engines.

Boisseau said the company's business aviation section was most deeply impacted. The company will maintain its current level of investment in R&D, new engine development and its recently announced aerospace division.

In Quebec the company has 5000 employees.
