It's the last day of work for some employees at Pratt and Whitney's engine plant in Longueuil.

Last week, 290 people were given layoff notices. Two hundred and ten employees either took early retirement or a buy out package.

Friday is the last day of work for those on a weekly shift; Sunday is the last day for weekend workers.

The company announced in February that was looking to cut about 500 jobs.

Pratt and Whitney is owned by parent company United Technologies, which also owns six other businesses internationally in the technology and engineering fields.

United Technologies posted $12.2 billion dollars in revenue in the first quarter of 2009. It notes that is 12 per cent below the previous year.
