A stretch of St. Paul St. in Old Montreal will be closed to traffic for two weeks this summer to make way for pedestrians.

The proposal was approved at a Ville-Marie borough council meeting Tuesday night. The pilot project will run from July 17 to Aug. 3.

St. Paul St. will be open exclusively to pedestrians between Bonsecours and St. Gabriel Sts.

The Ville-Marie borough will grant permits that will allow for street entertainers, a kiosque at Place Jacques-Cartier and a number of small terraces along the sidewalk.

Last year, the borough experimented with a summer-long pedestrian mall in the Gay Village.

Ste. Catherine St. was closed to traffic between Berri and Papineau Sts. from late June until Labour Day weekend.
