An NDG church has posted a sign that's got some people raising their eyebrows--including its parent church.

The sign is posted outside of the Rosedale Queen Mary United church and in front of a school bus stop. It features a renaissance-style black-and-white drawing of two men and two women, and asks about "Adam and Steve" and "Anne and Eve."

The church is headed up by an openly gay reverend, Rev. Neil Whitehouse. He says the church is "joyously inclusive."

The sign was put up two weeks ago as part of the international day against homophobia.

Some neighbours are ill at ease with the sign.

"I think it takes sexual politics into the streets and puts something in our faces that I may want to discuss with my children in my own time and way," said neighbour Gail Issenman. "I don't care what people do in their bedroom but I don't have a picture of my husband and I naked with a fig leaf in front of our crotch outside my house."

The Rev. is sympathetic, but looks to the bigger picture.

"I think children receive messages all the time from their parents from their schools and we're just part of the mix," he said.

The United Church of Canada says it is considering asking the Rev. to take down the sign, and see if he is taking into account how this may impact the church's relationships in the community.
