Nearly 2100 Quebec women should have their breast cancer tests re-screened, according to a committee of experts assembled by provincial health minister Yves Bolduc.

The committee wants samples retested for those who have invasive breast cancer and who tested negative for one of the treatment options-- Herceptin.

However, the experts are saying that they do not believe the tests are wrong, but that it would be a good idea to check just in case.

"The patients are worried, their family are worried and we said if we would have to make a decicision lets take the worst scenario," said Andre Robidoux, a surgeon.

The women will hear from their health care team by the end of the month.

The committee was convened after it was discovered that some tests that determine how the breast cancer should be treated could have been misleading.

Late last month, Quebec's pathology association found that up to 30 per cent of breast cancer test results at labs across the province were wrong. The tests were to determine what kind of treatment strategy a woman would receive.

As a result, hundreds of women may have been given the wrong treatment.
