Organized crime took yet another hit with raids Thursday at 10 locations in a crackdown on the mafia called Operation Sable.

Officers conducted raids in Montreal and Laval beginning at 4:30 a.m. At least seven alleged mafia members and associates were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The suspects were seen being unloaded at the Montreal police operations centre on Guy Street.

Police say the raids are not related to Operation Machine, in which dozens of Hells Angels and associates were arrested throughout southern Quebec on Wednesday.

The last big mafia raid was in 2006, when 91 people were arrested in Quebec and other provinces as part of Operation Colisee.
