Ten years ago Vitautos Bucionis was a blind boy from Lithuania fighting to stay in Canada.

CTV told you about his gift for the piano, and his family's hope to remain in Montreal.

Now Bucionis is studying music at Vanier college, and in his spare time he enjoys spotting and identifying birds.

While most birdwatchers, like Bucionis' teacher Nasyr Abdul Al Khabir, rely on their eyes to spy birds hiding in plain sight, Bucionis relies on his ears to pinpoint birds.

His hobby started at a young age.

"I went really deep into it at the age of 10. They always fascinated me more or less," said Bucionis.

While the rest of the group is looking for birds and taking notes, he is listening, and using a tape recorder to capture birdcalls.

"I'm really impressed. He's just picking off everything like to the left we have a magnolia warbler or whatever," said Al Khabir.

Bucionis not only has heard every bird, he can also imitate them, and says he can identify individual birds within the same species.
