There's been an explosion of violent crime in the Montreal region with four shootings in less than 24 hours, including two murders.
A man is fighting for his life after he was shot in broad daylight outside a gym in St. Leonard on Monday morning.
The 39-year-old man was walking with a friend on Jarry near Pascal-Gagnon around 11:15 a.m. when someone walked up to him and shot him several times in the upper body.
Bullets struck at least two nearby car windows and one projectile ended up in the window of a depanneur across the street. Police say that it's fortunate no one else was hurt.
The suspect fled on foot and is still at large.
Mercier murder
The first shooting happened on Sunday evening when a man was shot in the head at close range in the Mercier district east of downtown around 7:30 p.m.
The victim, in his 20s, had been standing with a small group of people on Allee des pruches near Duquesne when the shooter approached him and opened fire.
He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later died.
Police are questioning witnesses and still don't have a description of the suspect.
Investigators are getting conflicting reports about the shooting.
Police are also trying to find out if the victim is known to them.
Two shot in Burgundy: one dies
One man was killed when he and another man were shot early Monday morning in Little Burgundy.
Police were called when neighbours heard gunshots around 1:15 a.m. at the corner of Dominion and Quesnel.
Officers found two men, aged 25 and 22, with gunshot wounds and several cars had bullet holes, as well. The 25-year old man died -- the other victim's life is not in danger.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
Investigators remained on the scene for several hours.
Laval shooting
There was a fourth shooting in the Montreal region after a dispute in Laval led to gunfire.
A man got into an argument with two other people in the parking lot of an IGA on de la Concorde around 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
One man pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the leg.
The ailing man, with a bullet in his calf, drove himself to a police station and flagged down an officer at 8930 Pie-IX.
He told the officer that he had been shot.
The suspect is still at large.
