Tens of thousands of Hydro-Quebec customers could find themselves on the hook for a drastic increase in their bills.

It turns out the utility company had a computer glitch, and customers who opted for the monthly, fixed-amount payment plan have not been paying enough.

Hydro-Quebec is in the process of recalculating bills for customers, and will soon send out revised payment amounts.

The error could mean next year's bills will be ten percent higher.

Hydro-Quebec is anticipating a flood of complaints and queries about the changes, and will set up a dedicated phone line to handle calls.
