Friends and family gathered today to pay their last respects to Pte. Sebastien Courcy, the latest soldier to die in Afghanistan.

Close to 300 mourners attended the 26-year-old's funeral at St-Mathieu-de-Beloeil church in Beloeil, south of Montreal.

Courcy was killed July 16 when he stepped on an explosive device and fell off a cliff during military operations southwest of Kandahar City.

Courcy was a member of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal 22e Regiment Battle Group based in Quebec City.

He is the 125th Canadian soldier to die during Canada's mission in Afghanistan.
