A 51-year-old man was taken to hospital early Saturday morning after someone shot at his SUV several times. He was shot at least once in the upper body.

Police say the man and a woman, who they describe as a family member, were in an SUV parked on Roy Street, between Coloniale Avenue and St. Dominique Street.

Someone approached the car and fired into it several times. Bullets went through the windshield, side windows and the body of the car.

The victim then drove onto St. Laurent Street, north bound, where he got into a collision with a taxi and two other cars at the corner of Mont-Royal Avenue.

911 was called, and the man was taken to hospital where he is in stable but critical condition, say police.

A number of residents said they heard a number of shots, but mistook them for firecrackers.

Police say they have no suspects and the victim was not known to police.
