Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois has put her house in Ile Bizard up for sale, and says she plans to move to her riding in Charlevoix.
Marois and her husband, Claude Blanchet, are asking $8 million for their luxury mansion and its 1.7 million square foot property.
The waterfront home in Ile Bizard, with eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms, was built in 1994.
Marois says she wants to be closer to her constituents and plans to build a new home on another waterfront property she and her husband own in Ste-Irenee.
Marois says she will maintain an apartment in Montreal.
Defamation lawsuit
The PQ leader's Ile Bizard home caught public attention just before her 2007 election, when the Gazette published an article stating that part of the property was built on government land, and that part of the estate was built on property zoned as agricultural.
Marois blasted that article, and eventually sued the Gazette and writer William Marsden in a $2 million defamation lawsuit.
That case is still pending, with the next court date being September 28.
Justice Minister's move
Meanwhile the Quebec Justice Minister's new office will cost taxpayers more than $144,000.
Kathleen Weil's new riding office is next to the Vendome metro station in N.D.G., and the new space will have a conference room and upgraded surveillance technology.
Her old riding offices on Sherbrooke street do not have a security desk or parking spaces, which the government says is necessary for a minister's office.
Weil says that she had nothing to do with the decision to move.
