A window that fell from an abandoned building on Wednesday has drawn attention to plans to install a depanneur between two buildings of the Old Brewery Mission. That means inexpensive alcohol would be accessible to those who are battling alcoholism at the Mission, says its director.

Window falling

A window fell from the third story of the abandoned building on St. Laurent Blvd, which is sandwiched between the two buildings that house the Old Brewery Mission's administrative offices and its shelter and cafeteria.

The fire department was called to the scene at 3:49 p.m. on Wednesday. No one was injured, but firefighters set up a barricade as a preventative measure.

The building is undergoing renovations to accommodate the depanneur. The renovations may have been the cause of the window falling, said Chief of Operations Gilles Ducharme.

No one was injured.

Depanneur

The depanneur is of concern at the Mission, because several of the mission's users regularly travel back and forth between the two Old Brewery Mission buildings, said director Matthew Pearce.

The building is owned by Simon's Camera, and not owned by the mission.

Pearce says the Mission has been trying to stop it and has protested to the city.
