Police expect a peaceful weekend despite a number of major events on and near the island.

Between the Loto-Quebec International Fireworks competition on le Sainte-Hlne, the AC/DC rock concert at the Olympic Stadium, Les Francofolies festival downtown, and the one-year anniversary of Fredy Villanueva's death at the hands of police officers in Montreal North, this is considered to one of the "hot" weekends in the city.

Still, police are certain they are prepared for the numerous events, and don't foresee any trouble.

"We'll have police officers in the numbers necessary to make some intervention. There will be police officers dressed as police officers, and there are going to be investigators mixed with those people. There are also going to be horses--the cavalry are going to be there," said Sylvain Lemay, chief inspector of the Montreal police force.

A year after a riot ensued in Montreal North in response to the shooting of 19-year-old Villanueva, Lemay said police at local Station 39 have made strides to bridge out to the community there and expect the commemoration to be peaceful.

The commemoration will consist of a two-day event called Hoodstock, followed by a family march and a vigil Sunday evening.
