Montreal police are hunting for home invaders who struck Monday night in Riviere-des-prairies.

At least three armed men stormed into a home on Rene Descartes near 38th Avenue around 10 p.m.

The attackers tied up the three occupants, a husband and wife, and their 19-year-old son, then looted the house.

The woman who was attacked told CTV News that she at first thought the invasion was a joke, but soon realized the invaders were very serious.

The men were only inside the house for ten minutes, and were demanding to know the location of a safe.

However, the woman says her home does not contain a safe.

The men left with about $300 in cash taken from her husband's wallet, and did not touch any jewelry or other valuables.

Police say that while the family only saw three men, they believe a fourth person was involved.

Police say an alarm went off at the family's business, a marble and granite company, four hours after the home invasion.

Constable Daniel Lacoursiere doesn't yet know if the alarm went off by fluke, or if it was the second part of a coordinated attack.

"That's what the investigators are looking at right now, why was this house the target of these men?" said Lacoursiere.

The suspects who were seen are described as men in their twenties.
