A fire in an unoccupied residential building in the Plateau forced 15 people out of their homes in an adjacent building early Thursday morning.

Some of the evacuees were handicapped, but none of them sustained injuries in the fire.

The blaze broke out near 4 a.m. on the ground floor of the building on St. Hubert St. near the corner of Roy St.

The fire spread quickly and caused serious damage, but firefighters were able to put out the flames in under two hours.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
