The public health agencies in Montreal and the south shore are questioning the safety of the bike path on the Jacques-Cartier bridge.

30 cyclists have been injured on the path towards Ile-St-Helene in the last three years.

Health officials say the path might not be wide enough on the Longueuil side.

Dr. Jocelyne Sauve, head of the public health department for the Monteregie region, says the Federal Bridge Corporation is acting too slowly to widen the path.

The Corporation says it will make the changes next year.

Dr. Sauve and her Montreal counterpart, Dr. Louis Drouin, have written the Corporation, the Surete du Quebec and the city of Longueuil to demand immediate repairs.
