Angry residents crowded into a public meeting in N.D.G. on Monday evening, upset at plans to transform a former elementary school into a facility for students with learning difficulties.

People say they weren't consulted by the Commission Scolaire de Montreal, and they're worried about loitering and security issues.

"We all know that kids don't go home after school, they hang around the neighborhood," said resident Ian Brody.

"There's many high schools in this area, there's a university, there's a lot of people and there is a lot of traffic too."

Renovations are set to begin next month at the school on de Terrebonne street. The facility will welcome 200 students in January.

In response to the complaints, the French-language board will create a committee to figure out how to integrate the school into the community.
