Mayor Gerald Tremblay presented his Union party candidates in the Ville-Marie borough Monday, and within his team is a controversial candidate.
City councillor Sammy Forcillo will seek his seventh mandate on the city's council, despite an ongoing police investigation for corruption allegations last summer.
The Surete du Quebec is investigating allegations that Forcillo and councillor Cosmo Maciocia may have been offered a bribe by contractor Paul Sauve to guarantee a roof contract. Both the city and the contractor deny the allegations.
Forcillo will run again in the Peter McGill district. Catherine Sevigny will run in St. Jacques, while Yves Pelletier will run in Ste. Marie.
The mayor said he stands behind Forcillo and maintains he did not take part in any wrongdoing.
"If I had a doubt, he wouldn't be candidate for my political party. I can't be more clear than that, and I sincerely hope that the citizens will realize that I'm the only person in the last 30 years that had the courage to start talking integrity and taking the means to make sure that once I'm informed of a situation, I'm acting," said Tremblay.
There are currently five police investigations underway for allegations of corruption within the mayor's administration.
