Five pedestrians, including a two-year-old boy and two pregnant women, were hit by cars in Montreal on Saturday night.
The worst injury was suffered by the toddler, who has a fractured skull, however he is in stable condition.
The boy was hit by a car around 11:30 p.m. at the corner of Henri Bourassa and Parthenais when he ran away from his mother and darted into traffic.
His mother, who is five months pregnant, chased after him but hurt her leg and was unable to prevent his being hit by a car.
She is listed in stable condition, and her fetus is not in danger.
Three pedestrians hit
Earlier in the evening, a car hit three women jaywalking across Pie-IX near St. Zotique.
The 24-year-old female driver said she could not see the pedestrians in the rain as she was making a left-hand turn.
The three victims, aged 29 to 34 years old, all suffered minor leg injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
One of the pedestrians was pregnant, but neither she nor her fetus was seriously hurt.
Police are investigating, but do not expect to recommend any charges.
Police car crash
A police car smashed into another car at 11:45 Saturday night.
The officers were chasing a driver who broke a traffic law, but as the squad car went through the intersection of St. Denis and Jarry it hit the other vehicle.
The police car had its lights on as it went through the intersection.
Both drivers were slightly injured and treated for shock.
