BROMONT, Que. - Ottawa has provided nearly one-third of the funding for a $218 million high-tech project near Montreal.

Public Works Minister Christian Paradis says the feds will pump $83 million into the new microelectronics facility.

The centre, to be located in Bromont, Que., will use workers trained by the nearby University of Sherbrooke.

IBM and Dalsa Semiconductor will also participate in the project.

Premier Jean Charest says the economy is showing signs of improvement, and forward-looking projects like this one are key to long-term success.
