There were more long lineups Friday morning at McGill metro station - the only place in the city where transit users can buy reduced-fare Opus cards.

The Montreal transit corporation says it didn't expect such high demand for the photo identification cards, which offer discounted fares for students and the elderly.

Frustrated users have endured two-to-three hour waits all week as the back-to-school period gets underway.

"We came down here from the West Island," one man told CTV News reporter Maya Johnson.

"It's a trip down here, plus we have to wait another hour, maybe two to get the card."

Another man said he was fed up with the wait.

"Ridiculous if you have to wait that long," he complained. "Set up more booths or find another way to do it."

Getting better

The situation has improved slightly since Tuesday - the day that Opus cards officially took over as the standard throughout the transit system.

Old-style paper tickets strips have been abolished, but users who still have the tickets can get reimbursed at Berri-UQAM metro station.
