The Monster now sits atop the roller-coaster world.

La Ronde's wooden thrill ride has recorded a landslide victory in the Tournament of Thrills online competition to determine the best roller coaster in North America.

The Monster grabbed 71 per cent of the vote compared with just 29 per cent for the X2 coaster at Magic Mountain, in California.

Voting wrapped up Sunday evening on the Facebook social-networking website.

The Tournament of Thrills kicked off on May 25 and included 16 roller-coasters in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
