There are more signs that the Canadian Grand Prix will be returning to Montreal.

Former Grand Prix promoter Normand Legault said in a statement that the wildly-popular Formula One event will be back on the F1 calendar next year.

He said he had resolved outstanding financial issues with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone that had led the racing czar to drop the race from the schedule.

"I am especially pleased that an announcement is forthcoming to the effect that the Canadian Grand Prix will be back on the FIA calendar as of 2010," said Legault.

"I never doubted that the Canadian race would regain its rightful place on the FIA schedule. I am also happy for the Canadian Grand Prix's many fans, because they are true F1 enthusiasts who appreciate the real value of the spectacle and the competition."

Legault said he will not return as race promoter because he's not comfortable asking taxpayers to contribute millions of dollars to the sporting event, as other countries have agreed to do.

Back on sked

Montreal was on the preliminary 2010 Formula One schedule that was recently given to broadcasters at the Belgium Grand Prix recently.

No date was provided for next year's race - an event that generates millions of dollars in economic spinoffs to the country.
