The consumer group Option consommateurs has issued a reminder for people who got sick after eating bacteria-tainted Maple Leaf food products last year.

The deadline to apply for compensation is Nov. 2.

An out-of-court settlement will see consumers share at least $25 million.

The individual payments will range from $750 for those who simply felt sick for a few days to $125,000 for those who suffered long-term effects.

Option Consommateurs says people can file a claim even if they don't have a proof of purchase or haven't yet arranged to get copies of medical records.

A listeriosis outbreak forced Maple Leaf to shut down a plant in Toronto and recall 220 meat products purchased between Jan. 1 and August 31, 2008.

Twenty-one Canadians died, including two Quebecers.
