Museum open houses, hip-hop shows and children's theatre are some of the 2,200 free activities are taking place this weekend as part of Journees de la Culture.

The annual event, which began in 1997, is a showcase of local art and culture across the province that aims to making culture accessible to all socio-economic classes.

A free shuttle service is available to participants, covering more than 150 activities in seven locations, including Place du Quartier des spectacles, Pointe-a-Calliere and Radio-Canada.

In 2008, some 350,000 people took part in the activities, which were held in more than 300 Quebec municipalities.
