The four main contenders for mayor of Montreal were in the same room for the very first time Wednesday for a candidates' debate.
Gerald Tremblay of Union Montreal, Vision Montreal's Louise Harel, Richard Bergeron of Project Montreal and Louise O'Sullivan of Parti Montreal appeared at the Hyatt Hotel. The event was hosted by the Young Chamber of Commerce.
All four candidates presented their platforms during eight-minute pitches that were followed by a question-and-answer session.
Harel talks roads
Earlier in the day, Harel lit into the city administration for what she said was insufficient money to fix roads. She pledged to increase the $150 million annual roadwork budget if elected on Nov. 1.
Harel also said she would improve the management of construction projects by creating a coordination office that would include inspectors.
Tolls
Vision Montreal plans to pay for the construction watchdog by implementing tolls on bridges and highways.
Tremblay has also said he's in favour of tolls to pay for roadwork as well as public transit.
