Laval police are warning people to be careful about opening the door to strangers following a home invasion in the Chomedey district.
Les and Mayda Cohen were home for about ten minutes Thursday evening when the doorbell rang at 8:30.
They opened the door, and a heavy-set man in his 30s and brandishing a gun barged in.
"He wanted our money and our wallet," said Les Cohen. "He wanted to take us to the bank and we called 9-1-1 immediately."
The robber took all the cash the Cohens had on them, including their credit cards, then fled.
However Les said the robber dropped most of his loot a short distance away.
The Cohens were not hurt, but were only able to give police a vague description of the invader.
He's described as a white male about 35 years old, 6 feet tall and 250 pounds.
Tips
Police have advice for people confronted by home invaders:
- Keep calm
- Don't resist
- Memorize as many details about the individual as possible
- Don't pursue the suspect when they leave
- Call the police
- Note the description of the vehicle and what direction in which it's headed
