The Montreal Canadiens will be without defenseman Andrei Markov for up to three months.

His ankle was slashed by the skate of goalie Carey Price Thursday during the team's 4-3 road win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Doctors operated on Markov in a Toronto hospital Thursday evening to repair a severed tendon.

The Russian blueliner's injury is nearly identical to the one that ended the season of teammate Robert Lang in February. There's no timetable for Lang's return.
