How about a vaccine to inject some common sense into people?
I cannot for the life of me understand the refusal of so many people to get the H1N1 vaccine.
The best medical minds tell us to get vaccinated.
Why don't Canadians die in massive number numbers from infectious diseases? Why don't we have outbreaks of measles, mumps, whooping cough, chickenpox and even polio? Because of vaccines.
The thing is, not getting vaccinated is a pretty selfish thing.
People who don't are depending on everyone else to do so.
If you don't get vaccinated and get sick and infect someone else at high risk for complications, is that a responsible thing to do.?
A worst case scenario unless there is mass vaccination, is 10 million Canadians sick. As many as 10,000 dead.
The estimated risk for any severe reaction to an injection is one in a million.
So 30 people versus 10 million.
Do the math.
There is too much junk science out there, too many conspiracy theories too many people relying on Dr. Google.
This is a real threat. The chances of contracting the swine flu are relatively high.
Our health care system could be pushed to the breaking point on this.
If you still aren't convinced, think of the father of 13-year-old Evan Frustaglio and his pleas for people to be vigilant.
One minute his son was the light of his life, a star hockey player. The next he was dead.
We all have a responsibility here to protect ourselves and protect everybody else.
Tremblay: The lesser evil
Montreal voters surely wish the ballot could say 'none of the above'.
At this point, it seems not be a case of who is the best, but who is not the worst choice.
Electing Louise Harel clearly would not be in the best interests of our city. The mother of the forced mergers. She cannot unify. There is too much history there. And yes language is an issue. We need a fully bilingual mayor. We do not live in a bubble.
Richard Bergeron does not have the experience to guide Montreal. His belief that the 9-11 attacks were a western conspiracy should be reason enough not to elect him.
Gerald Tremblay has made plenty of mistakes, although he has some notable accomplishments.
But he has been na�ve and too trusting.
He promises real reform in a corruption infested city hall. Let's hope his conversion on the road to Damascus is real.
Clearly, he is the best choice...given the lackluster field, the lesser evil.
