A downtown gas leak has been capped after it caused a lot of problems on Tuesday.

A work crew broke a gas line while digging in front of the CIBC tower at 1155 Rene-Levesque. The line is located very close to the doors and windows of the building, so the entire skyscraper was evacuated.

Two people who suffered from asthma were taken to hospital and one woman was treated on the scene after being overcome by fumes.

Other people boarded buses that were brought in to keep them warm.

A section of Rene-Leveque blvd was closed off for much of the morning, but it was reopened by the afternoon.
