Investigators have determined that recent allegations involving three attempted kidnappings in the West Island are unfounded.

Following an extensive probe, Montreal police have determined the claims were not real.

In mid-October, three children reported kidnapping attempts in Pointe-Claire and Dollard-des-Ormeaux. Police regarded the allegations seriously, quickly proving the third abduction claim to be false.

"We did not want to take any chances. Once these allegations are made, we take them very seriously. But what's important to retain today is that we want to assure the public that there is not a suspect in a red van that is going around the schools of the West Island of Montreal trying to kidnap our children," said Peter Lambrinakos of the Montreal police.

Allegations

On Oct. 19, 13-year-old West Island boy reported that he was the victim of an attempted kidnapping in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. Montreal police said the following day they did not believe that any criminal activity occurred.

On Oct. 14, a 13-year-old girl told police she escaped the grip of a man in a rusty red minivan, who grabbed her near the corner of Duke of Kent and Westbank while she was on her way to school.

On Oct. 6, a 12-year-old boy said a man tried to grab him while he was walking home from school, after he got off his school bus on St. Louis at the corner of Marsh.
