A 30-year-old murder case was brought to a conclusion Sunday, as Claudette Verret, 61, was found guilty of murdering her sister and another man.

A jury found Verret shot her sister, Diane, to death in 1979, as well as her brother-in-law, William Theriault, in Diane's kitchen in Longueuil.

Diane Verret was 26 at the time; Therriault was 34.

New evidence from Claudette Verret's roommate at the time led to the arrests of Verret and her friend, Norman Janelle, in March 2008. Janelle's trial begins on Nov. 23.

Claudette Verret murdered her sister over a $30,000 life-insurance claim, said the former roommate, Marie-Perle Lapalme.

Claudette Verret will be sentenced Monday and is expected to be handed down a life prison term without possibility of parole before 25 years. If so, she would be 86 before she would be eligible to be released from prison.
