Quebec has begun talks to sell cheap energy to Prince Edward Island and the Charest government hasn't ruled out buying the province's utility outright.

Charest made the announcement at a speech in Boston on Friday.

It comes two weeks after Quebec announced it would buy New Brunswick's energy utility, New Brunswick Power, for $4.75 billion.

Charest said the two deals could create a strategic energy zone in eastern Canada.

But the New Brunswick Power acquisition is not without its critics.

Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams accuses Quebec of trying to isolate his province.
