A pair of Molotov cocktails was thrown through the windows of a restaurant and a residence in Mile End early Sunday morning.

The first makeshift explosive caused a small fire and damaged Nouba restaurant at 5329 St. Laurent Blvd., near St. Viateur, at 4:15 a.m. The restaurant just opened a few weeks ago.

The second, a few minutes later, broke the window of an apartment at 5583 St. Urbain St. near St. Viateur.

People were inside the home, but no one was hurt.

Police say the apartment's tenant is one of the restaurant's owners.

"What we're doing today is investigating by first of all talking with the owners trying to see if they had some threats in the last weeks or months or days and trying to see if they know about people who could want to hurt them or the business," said Const. Olivier Lapointe of the Montreal police.

No arrests have been made so far.
