Montreal's Public Health Agency has come out with new swine flu vaccination guidelines, effective immediately.

People aged 65 and older are now able to get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus in Montreal.

As of Thursday evening that age group is also allowed to get the shot in Laval.

This as the province expects a significant supply of the vaccine to arrive later this month.

Meanwhile on the South Shore, elementary and high school students missed class as they were transported to vaccination centres.

Children from the Marie-Victorin school board were being vaccinated in St. Hubert on Thursday.

"The biggest challenge was to bring 40 thousand students over here in 10 days," said Daniel Ouimet. "It was quite challenging."

Officials allowed 2,100 students to get their shots on Thursday, and the goal is to vaccinate up to 70 per cent of the 180,000 students on the south shore.

"We're about a week ahead of schedule," said Jocelyne Sauve, head of public health for the Monteregie region.

"We will probably be able to open to the overall population in a couple of weeks."

Monteregie is ahead of much of the rest of Quebec, but still behind the province of Ontario, which decided on Wednesday that everyone was now eligible for the vaccination.
