The second wave of the swine flu pandemic appears to be cresting in the Montreal area as a massive vaccination of students continues south of the city.

Children from the Marie-Victorin school board were being vaccinated in St. Hubert on Thursday.

Officials are allowing 2,100 students to get their shots on Thursday, and the goal is to vaccinate up to 70 per cent of the 180,000 students on the south shore.

"We're about a week ahead of schedule," Jocelyne Sauve, head of public health for the Monteregie region, told CTV's Cindy Sherwin.

"We will probably be able to open to the overall population in a couple of weeks."

Security

Security was very tight at the St. Hubert centre on Thursday.

Cars were barred from the building and even parents were banned from the site.
