A five-alarm fire destroyed a condo project overnight in north-eastern Montreal.

The fire started just after 3 a.m. near the intersection of Chateaubriand and Rosemont, at a construction site that was mostly walls and framing for a 96-unit condominium development.

More than 100 firefighters were eventually called to the scene to battle the quickly-spreading flames, and within three hours they had knocked down the fire.

Crews said the flames spread extremely fast because the building was not finished, and the exposed wood easily caught fire.

Damages are estimated at more than $4 million.
