On the day an arrest was made on the murder of taxi driver Mohammed Nehar-Belaid, his widow spoke out about her hardworking husband.

"My husband was an honest man, a worker, a good man. He didn't deserve this," said Amina Nehar-Belaid Saturday.

The 64-year-old father of five was found dead in LaSalle Wednesday after he went missing Sunday.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in his home via SWAT team intervention at 5:15 a.m. Saturday.

A warrant had been issued for the individual after tips came in based on surveillance video from a gas station that shows a man behind the wheel of the taxi. The video shows someone driving Nehar-Belaid's car and using his credit card.

"The man in that videotape was arrested this morning, and a search warrant was executed at his house," said Montreal police Const. Raphael Bergeron.

He'll face first-degree murder charges Monday.

Meantime, Amina Nehar-Belaid is trying to come to grips with telling her children and grandchildren that her husband, who relocated from Algeria 17 years ago to start a better life for his family, was senselessly murdered.

"They're really shocked... It's very hard. I wouldn't wish this on anyone," said Nehar-Belaid.

The taxi driver's colleagues at Champlain Taxi are also mourning the loss of their coworker, and will place black flags on their cabs the day of his funeral.

What's more, they're raising funds for Mohammed Nehar-Belaid's loved ones.

"Champlain Taxi is planning to help the family, and taxi drivers are donating money trying to help that poor family that lost their husband," said George Sitaras of Champlain Taxi.

Funeral arrangement have not yet been made public.
