The Olympic torch is scheduled to make its way through the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve south of Montreal on Tuesday, but the relay might be derailed by a policing dispute.

The band council says the RCMP escort is not welcome on their territory because they do not have policing powers in the community.

It appears that Mohawk peacekeepers might escort the torch runners through Kahnawake - negotiations continued on Monday.

There might still be protests even if peacekeepers take over the torch relay.

The Mohawk Traditional Council says it will organize a peaceful demonstration.

They're upset that the International Olympic Committee does not recognize Mohawks and other native groups as nations.
