The Olympic flame is passing through Montreal this week as it continues its journey to Vancouver.

At every stop along the way, the torch is bringing excitement, crowds and the Olympic spirit.

CTV Montreal reporter Annie DeMelt was in Beaconsfield at Centennial Park on Tuesday night, where people gathered to see the Olympic flame as it arrived on the West Island.

"It's pretty lively here," DeMelt reported, as grinning children gathered and waved in the background.

"The festivities will include some music, dancing and the Montreal Jubilation Choir performing 'Oh Canada'," DeMelt said.

Debra Arbec carries the torch

A very familiar face here at CTV is now a part of Olympic history.

CTV Montreal anchor Debra Arbec carried the torch before hundreds of cheering South Shore residents on Tuesday morning.

Debra, who is an experienced runner, says this run was very different.

"It was amazing," she told Todd on CTV News at Noon.

"I am so surprised how deeply this has touched me ... Todd, it really is a thrill of a lifetime."

Debra's route through St. Constant was just 300 metres, and it went by quickly.

She was smiling from ear to ear as she jogged down a residential street, waving to onlookers as CTV's live webcam and a convoy of official vehicles followed behind and in front.

Then, almost as soon as it began, she lit the next runner's flame and it was over.

"It goes by so quickly, but it's emotional," she said.

"You're carrying the symbol of the Olympics, and when you're out there, you realize how enormous this really is. There were people lined up along the street carrying their own paper torches, signs, cheering us on, and they were as thrilled probably as I was. But it really is huge."

Todd will be part of the magic on Thursday. He'll also carry the torch as it continues across Quebec on the road to Vancouver.
