The Olympics are often called Greece's gift to the world, but Wednesday night, the Olympic movement gave back to Montreal's Greek community.

Hundreds of Montrealers braved the first snow storm of the season to welcome the Olympic flame to the Hellenic Community Centre.

"It's a great feeling not only for me but for all the Greeks," said Peter Georgakakos.

Author Justine Frangouli said "this civilization, the western civilisation, is built in the heritage of ancient Greek roots and I'm proud of that."

Alouettes Quarterback Anthony Calvillo is not Greek, but he is married to one, so he's Greek by association.

"We talk about winning a world championship at the CFL," said Calvillo, who helmed his team to a Grey Cup win. "When you win a world championship at the Olympic level you're the best in the world."

The visit from the flame was short, but sweet, and yet another step in paving the road to Vancouver.
