West Island snow removal company Avalanche is backtracking on claims it would refund dissatisfied customers after it was snowed under by complaints.

Last week, customers, unhappy that the company didn't show up to clear their driveways after the first major snowfall of the season, were told by Avalanche that they would be offer refunds.

Now the company says it will only offer money back to those who haven't had any service.

The company's manager Fimino Tavares, who declined to be interviewed on camera, said there were delays in his snow removal operations after six of his trucks had been sabotaged last week.

He then added that he made a mistake by offering in a statement last week full refunds to unsatisfied customers.

"There was a letter which was seen - which was not correct - which said they would all get full refunds, but people who have had some work done in the first case, will get according to their contract. Other cases will be decided once we go through the computer files to see which work was done. Some people will be getting full refunds," said David Gerstall, an associate of Tavares.

That's not good enough for Carmella Lipari, who said she was told she won't be receiving all her money back.

"The other companies are out all the time, and this one - I don't know if they don't have enough tractors, drivers whatever the case is - no they're not showing up regularly," she said.

"I'm not getting my first payment back. That's what they told me," she said.
